Transforming the Perception of Stress

The perception of stress is different for every single one of us.

What I find stressful may not even register for you.

It often goes back to the age something occurred, the circumstances of our life at the time or how it effected you and others around you – and can also apply to a situation (what has happened around or to you) or a condition (a physical condition such as injury, illness or diagnoses).

The other interesting thing is that a lot of the stressful beliefs are carried forward from previous generations.  This means that we have stress responses to things that were not in our lifetime and could date back to a minimum of 14 generations on both sides of our family.  That’s a lot of experiences, situations, conditions and limiting beliefs!

Usually we can carry this stress response around for our entire life.  And most often, we don’t even really know or remember in our conscious mind the exact circumstances that occurred. We’ve done what we needed to and pushed it down really deep so we can get on with life.

In fact, it hasn’t been until fairly recent times that we understood these beliefs could be changed.  

 

How does this stress show up in our lives?

Given we are all so different, our reactions will also be very different.   Chronic stress can show up as:

  • Low energy
  • Not feeling ‘right’
  • No appetite or you could eat anything and everything!
  • Unintentional weight gain or weight loss
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Headaches
  • Lowered immune system – and more colds, flus etc
  • Upset stomach
  • Insomnia or interrupted sleep
  • Irregular toilet habits – constipation / diarrhea
  • Aches and pains
  • Irritability
  • Crying for no reason
  • Losing your bundle over the little things
  • Feeling totally alone
  • Feeling tense – in the stomach or shoulders
  • Anxiety
  • Overwhelm
  • Depression
  • Low self esteem
  • Intense reactions – quick to anger / upset over small things
  • Feeling like you are unable to breathe deeply – almost blocked at the heart chakra

The Solution!

For example, if something happened to you as a young child or early teen, every decision you make from that time on is based on the fear or stress from that situation or condition.

It might mean that you hold yourself back from what you truly want in life, you could have really low self esteem, you may not fully love and accept yourself, you may feel unworthy of certain things.

It’s like the scaffolding of your life and wellbeing is build on dodgy ground. If it’s not solid and secure, anything you do from there will never be stable. It will always cause stress and fear.
